Ephraim S. Casper has been named Head of the newly formed Division of Network Medicine Services in the Department of Medicine. In this role, Dr. Casper oversees the medical services at Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Regional Care Network sites. His responsibilities include development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines, quality assurance, and oversight of clinical trials at the regional locations.
Dr. Casper is a noted medical oncologist who specializes in treating patients with solid tumors, particularly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and soft tissue. An experienced clinical researcher, he has been involved in developing new drugs for the treatment of these cancers and combined modality strategies for the treatment of patients with advanced tumors. From 1988 until 1996, he oversaw the management of all clinical trials in the Department of Medicine.
After receiving his MD degree in 1974 from Rush Medical College and completing his residency training there, Dr. Casper came to Memorial Sloan-Kettering in 1977 as a medical oncology fellow and joined the staff of the Developmental Chemotherapy Service in 1979. In 1996 he was appointed Chief of Medical Oncology for Memorial Sloan-Kettering's facilities in New Jersey, and in 2005 took on the additional responsibility for oversight of medical oncology programs at all the regional sites. Dr. Casper is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Regional Care Network comprises outpatient cancer care facilities in Commack and Hauppauge on Long Island, Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County, and Basking Ridge, New Jersey. In 2006, these facilities accommodated more than 110,000 patient visits.
